STOP AND FOCUS- REMOVING EMOTION
The Anatomy of Focus
The Narrative
In 2006, this work was a frantic repair of a mind gone astray—a psychological defence against a world that demanded an uprightness I wasn’t yet ready to give. I was reckless, wild, and obsessing over a focus that constantly eluded me. I was caught in the crossfire of biological inheritance and the sheer stress of life’s struggle to perform.
Removing Emotion is the moment the "give" happens. It is the internal command to Stop and Focus. It is the brutal, necessary act of stripping away the chaotic noise of the heart to see the truth of the self. There are no innocent ones in this story; we have all lost battles, broken trusts, and gained loves only to watch them slip through our fingers like sand.
To see this work transition from its original 110cm study to a life-size 220cm bronze pillar on a 30cm black granite bed plinth, is to witness the scale of that survival. The win is bittersweet. It tastes of the dust from the road we’ve travelled and the blood from the wounds that refused to heal. This sculpture is the monument to that journey—a reminder that while the struggle is heavy, the focus is what remains when the emotion is finally set aside.
